Any discount below the recommended price reduces your margin below target. Fixed business costs you have not entered here (insurance, software, etc.) are not captured by this calculator.
The formula
Loaded cost bundles materials, labour, packaging, overhead and waste-adjusted costs. The denominator (1 − selling fee % − target margin %) is what's left of every dollar of price after fees take their cut and your margin is reserved. If that denominator hits zero or below, no price can satisfy both your fees and your margin — lower one of them.
Worked example
Materials $8, labour 1.5h at $18/h = $27.00, packaging $1.50, overhead $1, waste 5%. Base cost = $37.50. Waste-adjusted = $39.47. With a 6.5% selling fee and 30% target margin, the engine solves: recommended price = $62.64. Profit per unit = $18.79; effective hourly earnings = $12.53.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know what hourly rate to use?⌄
Use the amount you need to earn per hour for your business to be sustainable — not your country's minimum wage. If unsure, start with what you would pay someone else to do this work.
Why is my recommended price higher than I expected?⌄
Because it accounts for labour, waste, fees and profit, not just materials. If the price feels high, your costs or target margin are high — the calculator is showing you the true floor for sustainability.
Should I include selling fees if I sell in person?⌄
No. If you sell cash-in-hand with no platform fee, leave the selling fee percentage and fixed fee at zero. Only enter fees you actually pay for the channel you're pricing for.
What is the 'do not sell below' price?⌄
It's your break-even: the price where profit per unit is zero after costs and fees. Selling below it means every sale loses money, even if it feels like revenue.
